If you go into the way-back machine and set the dial to sometime in the mid 2000’s, you’ll find yourself at an early Statutory Jape show, when the group looked a little different than it does today… it had a female member.
That’s right, Toronto sketch favourites Jape, (as they are now known), had an earlier incarnation of their high-reference, low-brow comedy troupe that featured Evany Rosen. And Evany, as some of you probably know, has recently been kicking sketch comedy butt in Halifax with the oh-so-popular Picnicface. This summer, Picnicface shot their sketch television show, premiering on Comedy Network in the fall.
Jape member Eric Turkienicz says “Evany brings a real energy to the performance and some new perspectives on the writing process. It’s also great to be able to cast an actual girl in the female roles; Simon Pond could use the break.”
Tomorrow night, (Thursday, August 18th, 8pm) you can catch Evany’s reunion with her Jape buddies at their monthly show at Comedy Bar. You’ll see all new material, plus a rare glimpse at some sketches from the vault. And if that’s not enough, the warm-up act is Fratwurst. And they’re super great, too.
