Leading up to and throughout Sketchfest 2014, the TOsketchfest Blog will be featuring a Troupe of the Day…every day!
Today’s troupe is Charles, a Seattle-based duo made up of Charles Stockman and Chuck Armstrong. Nobody knows where their troupe name comes from, but Charles isn’t all about mystery. They’ve been performing live sketch all over North America together since 2007, to enviable success, including being the winners of both “Best Writing” and “Best Sketch Comedy” at the 2012 LA Comedy Festival–as well as fan favourites at our very own festival last year.
Clever, deliberate and creative, Charles brings a certain cerebral sensibility to the stage. Perhaps this has to do with the individual performer’s backgrounds as a contributing writer to The Onion (Armstrong) and McSweeney’s (Stockman). Or maybe it’s the energy that comes from two good friends who just want to make a crowd guffaw. Either way, these guys combine high-brow and low-brow humour in a style they affectionately call “unibrow” — which you’ll be sure to love, regardless of your feelings toward actual unibrows.
Check out Charles’ troupe profile to grab tickets to their shows, March 14 & 15 at Comedy Bar! Catch these guys before they click their heels and head back down to the Emerald City! (Seattle. Apparently that’s Seattle’s nickname).
