Kaboom! Hooray! is today’s Troupe of the Day! Shall we say, hooray!
This Calgary troupe was founded in 2010 by Alan Cho and Jeff Kubik, and it’s been growing and transforming in style and substance ever since. Nowadays it even features 50% more robot! That’s a lot of robot.
Kaboom! Hooray! is alternative comedy for people who like the slightly unhinged world of a carnival that might not be up to code, and the comfort of candy. By which I mean, they literally like to hand out candy to the front row at their monthly Yuk Yuk’s shows. They’re also the first troupe from Calgary to grace the TOsketchfest stage!
Kaboom! members performing at TOsketchfest are Jeff Kubik, Ian Wallace, Donovan Deschner, Scoot Laird, Kyle Francis, and alumnus Amanda Brooke Perrin, who now makes her home in Toronto. Each bring something different to the table. A passion for stand-up as well is an ongoing thread tying this troupe together, and they are all touring stand ups as well. Wallace was a 2011 Finalist in the Great Canadian Laugh-Off, and Francis was a qualifier in SIRIUS XM’s Canada’s Next Top Comic in 2013, and Perrin is a Canadian Comedy Award nominee and featured on CBC’s The Debaters. And just to mix it up a bit, Deschner has a background in the art of magic.
Put them all together and one might even say Kaboom! Hooray! is explosive.
