Today’s Troupe of the Day is the Weaker Vessels! One of Toronto’s most off-kilter troupes, these four guys and a gal always manage to rein in their inherent madness with strong characters and absurd concepts an audience can’t help but get behind.
The current cast is Lance Byrd, Jeff Clark, Allan Cooke, Nadine and Colin Sharpe — all recognizable faces in Toronto stand up and improv communities as well. The Weaker Vessles met while studying at the Second City Conservatory and became established as a group in 2012 (with co-founder Charlie Booth), bonding over their love of smart British comedies and mutual respect for their varied backgrounds. Cooke’s performance style is rooted in his clowning experience, Sharpe has a degree from York University in Creative Writing, whereas Clark and Byrd both went to Humber for their Comedy Writing & Performance program.
Together the Weaker Vessels has nary a weak link among them. They’ve already produced three hour long performances of all new material, and were finalists for the Tim Sims Award through Second City just this past October. This is also their second year doing TOsketchfest and we’re super glad to have them back!
You can see these guys TOMORROW March 6th, as a competitor in our Sirius XM Sketch Off competition on March 12th, and on the last day of the festival, March 16th! All performances at Comedy Bar, 945 Bloor Street West, on the mainstage.
