THE BASICS:
Programming Guidelines:
- Festival dates are March 7-17th 2013
- Troupes with the highest quality and originality of writing, production and performance are scored highly by the jury;
- Regardless of your troupe size or style, your application will be considered if your show is scripted/rehearsed and comprised of sketches/skits/segments. We have presented solo sketch performances before. No improv, stand-up or full-length plays will be considered; and
- Your troupe must have some history of performance. The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival should not be your first show.
Application Deadline: Submissions must be completed by 11:59 pm on NOVEMBER 18th
Application Fee: The processing fee for all applications is $50 (CAD), (includes $5.75 HST). The only payment option accepted is PayPal.
What is the Submission Fee for?
Aside from providing for the time and resources that go into evaluating submissions, your fee gets you the following benefits:
If your troupe is selected to perform in the festival
- Your show is supported by publicity and marketing campaign
- You will receive FREE professional development workshops and panels
- You'll gain access to Industry networking opportunities and Industry is invited to attend festival shows
- Your Artist Pass allows you to see shows throughout the festival (space permitting)
If your troupe is declined?
- Your troupe will receive a 4-Show Pass so you can check out shows ($40 value)
- You will have access to select professional development workshops and panels free of charge
Performance Info:
Troupes will perform in either a double- or triple-bill in a 20, 30 or 40 minute set. We do our best to give out of town troupes two performance opportunities. Troupes are given an honourarium for their performance ($100/show for local troupes, $200/show for troupes outside of a 250 km radius of Toronto), access to shows and free professional development and parties.
Other Important Info: Submissions will be juried by the Festival producers and an advisory panel of industry professionals. Programming announcements will be made in early September, and artists will be notified of programming decisions by email.
WHAT YOU NEED TO PREPARE:
Submission Reel:
- You must submit video of your LIVE material. The jury needs to see complete sketches, do not send a reel of blow lines or material that is heavily edited. Short films/video sketches are not acceptable.
- You must provide a link to your video online. The least glitchy and most preferred platform is YouTube. We will not accept DVDs.
- You can provide up to three links for us to view. We will watch up to 12 minutes of total footage. There will be a space to provide viewing instructions (i.e. which link to watch first, where to start watching etc.) if you need to.
- It is very important that the video you submit represents what your performance in November will look and feel like. (i.e. if an actor has left your troupe, do not send video of them doing a monologue; if you are a filthy troupe, do not send your one G-rated sketch, send your filthy material!)
Promo Material:
- You must send print-resolution photos and/or a troupe logo in electronic format. You can submit up to 3 images. Please send print-resolution jpgs, 300 dpi, maximum file size 3MB/ea. If you don't know what any of this means, ask us!
- You must also send a 40-word version of your troupe bio/show description for publication on the website and in the house program. This is the bio that will be most widely used, so make it compelling so the audience will choose your show!
- There will also be an opportunity to provide up to three additional promotional material files if you wish. (press release, media quotes, long bios etc.)
Submission Fee:
- All submission fees must be paid through PayPal and you will need the confirmation number from your payment in order to complete your online application.
