After performing on CBC's The Irrelevant Show, Vancouver Sketchfest, Philladelphia Sketchfest, and the Sled Island Music Festival, Success 5000 are thrilled to finally take the stage at TOsketchfest. Self-described as "musical comedy that doesn't suck," Success 5000's stage show consists entirely of guitar-driven comedy anthems, with both members of the duo tackling vocals that manage to be equal parts soulful and ridiculous. The songs themselves range in style from rock ballads to acoustic hip hop, but each one is rooted in absurdist humour tinged with a healthy dose of cynicism and self deprecation.
Success 5000 is an Edmonton-based duo specializing in musical comedy. They have headlined every stand-up night in Edmonton, toured the country, performed on CBC’s The Irrelevant Show, and been featured in comedy festivals such as Vancouver Sketchfest, Philly Sketchfest and Improvaganza. Their award-winning short films have been screened as part of the Edmonton International Film Festival and the NextFest Emerging Artists’ Festival, and their original production at the 2015 Edmonton Fringe (Rigby Muldoon: Time Traveller For Hire) earned 4-star reviews and sold out its entire run. They recently released their first full-length album of musical comedy, entitled Laughcore, at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. Their music blends absurd humour with biting cynicism; a recent review noted that their songs are layered with fun, seriousness, self deprecation, love, thoughtfulness and a fine, refreshing touch of nihilism.
