The Irrelevant Show
FROM THE RANDOPLH THEATRE AT THE TORONTO SKETCH COMEDY FESTIVAL, IT’S THE TORONTO RETURN OF THE IRRELEVANT SHOW!
After five seasons as a national ratings hit on CBC Radio, The Irrelevant Show has begun venturing out of frosty Alberta. They’re thrilled to be coming back to Sketchfest for another live taping for broadcast. From everyday observational humour, to pop culture parodies, to surreal flights of imagination, The Irrelevant Show offers a sketch buffet with something for every comedy taste. The Irrelevant Show has won both a Canadian Comedy award and a medal at the prestigious New York festivals.
The cast of the Irrelevant Show includes:
MARK MEER – multiple Canadian comedy award nominee, and voice of Commander Shepherd in the Mass Effect video games
NEIL GRAHN – Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie
DONOVAN WORKUN – Atomic Improv, countless movie credits
JANA O’CONNOR – improviser, playwright, actress
And from Toronto’s own comedy scene, special guest actor/writer CARLY HEFFERNAN and musical guest GEORGE WESTERHOLM.
The show has a strong Toronto writing presence – local writers for the show include Chris Wilson and Sam Mullins, Aaron Eves, James Hartnett, Michael Balazo, Chris Locke, Nile Seguin, Peter Stevens, Diana Frances and Carly Heffernan, who the Irrelevant Show team first saw at last year’s Toronto Sketchfest.
The radio show has been a popular success and won several awards, but the live recording is an event unto itself. “Most of the sound effects are live, as is a lot of the music. And what happens between sketches is really a second show: the theatre audience sees all the mistakes, all the banter, and all the vicious infighting that the radio listeners miss”, says show producer Peter Brown, “plus their reactions decide which sketches, and which jokes, actually make it into the radio show”.
The Irrelevant Show is taping two all-new episodes, to be broadcast nationally on CBC Radio One, on March 10th at the Randolph Theatre.
