MODERNITY. Baudelaire coined the term to designate the "fleeting, ephemeral experience of life in an urban metropolis, and the responsibility art has to capture that experience." The Utilidors saw this and thought it was real neat. They have chosen to take on this responsibility via the world’s highest art form; sketch comedy. Capture what is now and what will no longer be after now through the twisted lens of The Utilidors, performing at #tosketchfest for their second year. Capture MODERNITY now, before it’s gone. Like this moment. And this one.
The Utilidors is a boy/girl grant-receiving sketch comedy duo. It features Brie Watson & David Lahti; two small(er)-town kids now based in the gleaming metropolis of Toronto. Their comedy and characters take absurd viewpoints of the everyday, and satirical approaches to social inequalities. In essence, these two know how to party. The Utilidors delighted audiences at the 2017 Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival. In 2016, they performed at the Boston Comedy Arts Festival in their first international review. One the home-front, you can catch them at The Social Capital Theatre & headlining Humber College’s #MondayNightSketch at Comedy Bar. Both Dave and Brie are graduates of the Second City’s Conservatory program. The Utilidors are recipients of the 2017 Sketch Comedy Project Fund for the creation of their upcoming web series pilot “Time Slicers,” which is currently in production.
