Uncalled For presents Playday Mayday

TOsketchfest is thrilled to partner with multiple award-winning troupe Uncalled For to bring you the Toronto theatrical run of Playday Mayday at Theatre Passe Muraille, November 24th to December 4th, 2016.

Playday Maydayis a hilarious, free-flowing theatrical sketch comedy tale about the games we forget to play once we group up.

Five childhood friends re-unite as adults in their coastal hometown watching the nsfw subreddits online, but a freak five-way cellphone accident interrupts their boring grown-up plans and sends them on an adventure “out of bounds.” What they discover is a place where games come alive, and where the lines between life and play blur.

From finger guns to astronauts, Twister to Twenty Questions, imaginary friends to princesses, Playday Mayday proves that nostalgia can be more than reboots and references. It can be about remembering a different way of engaging with each other.

Created by Canadian Comedy Award-nominated improv and sketch comedy troupe Uncalled For (Just for Laughs, Next Stage Theatre Festival, Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival), Playday Mayday is intelligently written and joyfully performed. It’s a show that seeks to redefine its own genre reveling in the elastic reality of sketch comedy, but grounding it with the emotional honesty of theatre.

The Montreal Gazette hailed it as a “Hilarious journey through a maze of surreal fantasies, seeded with great running gags which eventually tie the whole zany package together.” A show for anyone who ever was, or perhaps still is, a child.

Playday Mayday is produced with the support of The Sketch Comedy Project Fund, a special project of The Pat and Tony Adams Freedom Fund for the Arts.
