Laura's day-to-day attempts to pass as a nice Canadian girl give way to reveal her Italian pagliaccio heart in this electric solo sketch revue. She uses physical comedy, clown and satire to guide you through the absurd lives of all the Dianes we've never met yet seem to know. diane is written and performed by Laura Ramoso and directed by Devon Hyland.
Laura, originally from Italy and Germany, moved to BC in 2013 to get one of those North American college degrees just like in the movies. One of her first experiences with improv turned out to be a spot on Season 6 of Victoria’s “Sin City: The Live Improvised Serial”, where she played a Vegas showgirl who didn’t speak much. Shortly thereafter, she relocated to Toronto in pursuit of sketch and improv comedy and an MBA in arts and media management at York University. She is a graduate of The Second City Sketch Conservatory and an alum of the Bad Dog Featured Players’ sixth season. In 2019, she was invited to perform at the Just for Laughs New Faces Solo Character Showcase, where she debuted two of the sketches that would eventually make up the first rendition of her solo-sketch revue diane. The full show went on to sell out audiences in Toronto, grant her the Best New Show Award at the Bad Dog Theatre’s “Good Dog Awards 2019” and most recently, was featured at both the Chicago and San Fransisco Sketch Comedy Festivals this past January.
Laura’s biggest influences include Gad Elmaleh, Bob Fosse, John Mulaney, Nick Kroll, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, MOMIX, Cirque du Soleil, and ‘Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo’. Her passion for clown and commedia dell’arte has garnered her an interest in marrying the North American style of joke-writing with the physical elements of classical Italian theatre. diane is written and performed by Laura Ramoso and directed by Devon Hyland.
